Philippe began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor in Brooklyn, where he handled thousands of cases from start to finish. He tried numerous cases to verdict, carried out lengthy investigations, and conducted hearings in front of the Grand Jury. Now focusing on Education, Mr. Gerschel helps parents and children, especially those struggling with Autism and other learning challenges, navigate the bureaucracy and confusion of working with the school system. He knows how to work effectively with the Department of Education and how to obtain private school tuition reimbursement, special education services, and additional help for students whose needs don’t fit the traditional profile.

Prior to focusing on education, Mr. Gerschel was successful as criminal defense attorney, successfully defending cases ranging from criminal to traffic offenses. In addition to his criminal law background, Philippe has significant civil experience. He has successfully appealed decisions before New York’s  Appellate Division First Department. He represents clients in breach of contract claims and multi-million dollar fraud suits, and has represented individuals in the Surrogate’s Court.

Philippe’s legal background extends beyond the courtroom. He represented both institutional lenders and private lenders in complex real estate transactions for two large New York firms. Philippe’s diverse litigation background is an asset because he knows how to structure deals in order to avoid future litigation. Mr. Gerschel also routinely advises clients in real estate transactions ranging from first time home purchases and sales to more complex real estate investments.

Experience and Education

Prior to starting his own firm, Philippe worked as an associate with Robinson & Cole and Kriss & Feuerstein.  He also maintains an of-counsel position with Woodruff and Luo LLC.  Philippe earned a B.A. from The George Washington University and a J.D. from New York Law School.
